ODY sophomore Nina Hula is local royalty after being crowned the 2024 Herkimer County Fair Queen this past summer. Nina performed various duties during her reign that included volunteering at day and evening fair events—such as the truck pull—and awarding trophies and ribbons at the livestock competitions.

To become queen, Nina and the other contestants first had to write an essay and then be interviewed on stage by pageant judges. Hopefuls for the Herkimer County Fair Court, which includes queen, princess and prince, are selected on personality, poise and appearance.

As a tenth-grade student at ODY, Nina is involved in many extracurricular activities including clay target and Future Farmers of America (FFA), volleyball, drama club, chorus, band, ski club, yearbook club, and art club. She also rides horses and is an award-winning equestrian.
